The Awakening
(Revealed in 1998 – Elder Swinton)
I was at a church; whether it was a vision or a dream, I do not know. I was sitting in the pews, falling asleep, when I was awakened by the Holy Spirit. He told me to look at the people and to wake them up. The Holy Spirit said if they were not awakened, they would become like them. Then, the hand of the Holy Spirit pointed towards the front of the church, and I saw people simultaneously walking in a circle like zombies…never missing a beat.
I went to each pew and began to shake them according to whom the Holy Spirit had chosen. Pointing to the front of the church, I exclaimed that if they did not wake up, they would become like the walking dead. The awakening caused some of the people to jump up and flee from the church. Others that I shook were not awakened, instead they were invaded by a zombie-like spirit. The invaded people got up and joined the procession in front of the church. After this took place, the Holy Spirit told me to flee the church. As I fled, I felt sorrow over those who would be left behind. The Holy Spirit told me “Once I leave do not look back.” As I departed, I heard the church collapsing behind me.
Over the years, the Lord has given me a deeper understanding of the dream. He revealed that the dream was not exclusively focused on the local church but the church system at large. In subsequent years, I attended numerous churches and began noticing a pattern. Every church looked the same as if they were simply mimicking what they had seen others do. I was reminded of the marching zombies. They imitated one another because they were devoid of the life-giving Spirit, causing them to adopt counterfeit worship.
In more recent years, the Holy Spirit revealed that the slumbering people in the pews were the prophets. They slumbered like zombies because they lacked fresh words from the Lord. They started to pattern their walk after the leaders who were spiritually dead. There was no vision since the invading spirit had silenced the voice of the prophetic. Certainly, the Lord teaches, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18).
Ultimately, the Holy Spirit began to deal with me on gathering and awakening the prophets. He is showing me how this dream pertains to the Joshua Generation mission in the Body of Christ. If we the prophets are asleep, who will be His voice? Isaiah 29:10 says, “For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.” This same spirit Isaiah spoke of invaded those in my dream. As prophets and seers, we must stand in the counsel of the Lord to receive fresh manna and avoid the spirit of deep sleep that can fall upon us! Isaiah goes on in verse 13 to say, “Wherefore the Lord said, forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men.” The Lord says, “this people”, not those. He is speaking directly to His prophets and seers who have removed their hearts and fear from Him.
Joshua’s Generation Ministries was birthed from a divine mandate to gather and awaken the prophets. I asked the Lord “how would I identify them?”, and He revealed that they would all sound alike. Over the years, I have encountered many prophets whose voices echo the same prophetic call. God is assembling His remnant to form His end-time army, preparing us for spiritual warfare. His desire is for prophets and seers to awaken the Church, bringing revelation to His people in this season. In the words of Bill Hamond,
“The most urgent need in the Body of Christ today is the refining, positioning, and repositioning of the prophetic ministry. The Church will not come to true maturity until we have risen prophetic voices to lead, comfort, exhort and edify the Body of Christ unto the fullness and maturity in Christ Jesus.”
